The Internet people found me. And they worried about me. Wow, what a gentle nudge I needed to get back to something I love, blogging. It's become so hard to find time for myself these days. Heck, even at 8 months pregnant, it's hard for me to find the time while at work to simply go to the restroom or eat lunch. So goes the world of a working mom, especially one in a new role with a new team at work. On the weekends, we are spending time at soccer, working on the house, birthday parties and more.
Lance has been great, however, providing me with as much time as I need to put my swollen feet up and relax while he takes care of the other things at home like dinner and getting the kids to bed. When I found a photography class I wanted to take about two months ago, he really encouraged me to take it, knowing how much I would love it and how it would bring back a little piece of me.
Well, the photography class ended last week. But maybe my random poke from the Internet people is a good enough reason to continue to carve out a little bit of time for me. After all, in about a month, it's going to be all about a newborn baby boy. Might as well continue trying to carve out time for myself amidst all the chaos.
Heck, seeing as how it's the start of Lent today, it may even be a good thing to commit to. Or is that crazy?

Where have I been?
Yesterday it was the school to drop Morgan off, the tennis club, the grocery store, the school to pick Morgan up, home, dance class to drop Morgan off, home, dance class to pick Morgan up, home, and finally the movie theater (where I saw The Secret Life of Bees - GREAT movie!)
Today it was the school to drop Morgan off, Peet's, the school to help with the book fair, home, park for Bennett's playgroup, the school to pick Morgan up, home, Girl Scout meeting, picked up a toddler slide from a freecycler, and then finally home.
Yesterday when I was home, I did a good job of not sitting down and getting a lot done. Today, not so much. Although, I will brag on myself for a moment that even though I am flying solo tonight, since Lance left at 5pm for a geocaching event, I STILL cooked a full dinner. Yes, I had to talk myself back into it several times, but I managed to squeak out BBQ meatloaf, risotto and green beans for just the kids and I. And got them to bed on time. With homework and reading done. I even cleaned the kitchen.
The truth is, that what I should be doing with this time alone is catching up on ironing, sweeping and mopping floors, and filling out my absentee ballot. But, instead I'm sucked into Facebook and blogging and the mindless things I have been missing out on since I've been having to share a laptop with Lance. My power cord better be here tomorrow!!
Tomorrow is a relatively mild day, compared to the rest of the week. I'm meeting a friend at the gym for the track and stairs combo and then I plan to catch up on whatever I don't do tonight before picking Morgan up from school. After naps, we're heading to the park for playgroup, then we'll come home for dinner and then I'm off to bible study. Sometime, I need to actually carve my pumpkin. I like doing it, but I don't want to do it by myself! I think it's something that should be shared with someone you love over a nice glass of wine.
Now that I look at tomorrow, I think I should just go to bed. :)

Just ask the expert
Apparently I'm the expert on not only comfort letters, but also on circumcisions. Because in addition to the 2-3 hits a day on comfort letters, I'm now getting 2-3 hits a day from people googling for information on circumcisions. On, specifically yesterday, "beautiful circumcision". Apparently I'm not the only inappropriate person out there.

Go ahead and google it
So, I have a tool that allows me to see where traffic is coming from on my blog. It will tell me if someone is coming directly to my site, through Google reader, or bloglines, or whatever. It also will tell me if, say, someone happened to stumble upon my blog by googling particular words. Like "comfort letter for kindergarten", for instance. Go ahead, you know you want to.
GUESS WHO'S NUMBER ONE??! That's right! I'd like to thank the academy....oh wait. Not number one like that.
I've gotten at least one hit a day (more often two or three) from Google for people who are HONESTLY looking for a LEGITIMATE letter to comfort their child in case of emergency. And they stumble across my half-baked letter. I don't know why this strikes me as equally hilarious and embarrassing. I'm a smart ass in a legitimate directory. These poor people who keep searching for help. All I can say is I'm sorry! Sorry, I can't be of greater assistance. Sorry to waste your time.
And to set the record straight, I did not put a copy of our will into either of the emergency kits. I thought that might be taking it to a whole new level. I tried to focus on the FUN GLOW STICK and the MYLAR SPACE BAG that would be really cool things to think about in the event of a major catastrophe. I also threw in a few "you BETTER LISTEN TO YOUR TEACHER!!" comments.
But, you do what you think needs to be done. And, if you are brave, please post a copy of your letter here. So that others may also find the information they are searching for. Because mine is simply no template.
And, honestly, when did emergency kits become such a popular thing??

Someone is reading this blog!
Yes, it's true. I couldn't believe it either. Makes me wonder if maybe I should start censoring my posts?? And here's the interesting part - she likes it. I know!! To quote her, she says, " Paige at My Home is My Heart fills her blog with a delightful combination of humor, fun, and adorable pictures of her kids. She is an amazing woman and mother, and I really enjoy getting to read these snippets of her life every day." Delightful? Amazing?? So, clearly she isn't reading carefully. :)
No, seriously. Emily is a friend of mine (who blogs here) that I met online a bazillion years ago and had the pleasure of meeting in person a couple of icy Februaries ago when I was stuck in Washington D.C. for a Lockheed Martin Leadership academy. Eight months pregnant with Bennett, in crazy high heels trying to walk on snow. Sing it with me, "One of things is not like the others. One of these things just doesn't belong." Not sure if it was me fully pregnant or the high heeled boots, but I was making EVERYONE nervous walking around on the icy snow. But I got to experience a full on blizzard in the dead of winter in DC. Everything was shut down. Except the academy, of course. Anyway - Emily was nice enough to come rescue me from our hotel one afternoon so that we could meet in person. Her kids Claire and Ben are so cute and so smart, kind of like their mom. She's one of those people the helped convince me that having two was going to be good. Even if the second one was a stinky boy.
So yeah, she's awarded me with this smile award. Isn't it cute? Thank you, Emily! You put a smile on my face as well!
So, I will now do my part and play by the rules.
The Rules:
1. The recipient must link back the the award's creator (http://www.thebabblingsofmere.blogspot.com/)
2. You must post these rules if you receive the award.
3. You must choose 5 people to receive the award after receiving it yourself
4. You must fit the characteristics of the recipient of the award, as posted by Mere.
5. You must post the characteristics of a recipient.
6. You must create a post sharing your win with others.
7. You must thank your giver.
Characteristics for the Smile Award:
1. Must display a cheerful attitude. (not necessarily at all times--we are all human)
2. Must love one another
3. Must make mistakes
4. Must learn from others
5. Must be a positive contributor to blog world
6. Must love life
7. Must love kids
So, here are my award winners, I'll do three like Emily did. 'Cause I'm all about breaking the rules!!
1. Laura at lauralohr.com. I love reading updates on her because (1) she's a runner and passionate about it (2) she's a mom and passionate about it and (3) she is also passionate about traveling, spending time with her husband and family and living life, in general. Notice a theme? Not to mention that Allie brightens up her blog with her cute little face.
2. My friend at Born Still but Still Born. She has taught me so much about what it's like to go through a loss as deep as hers. How things we say and do, even with the best intentions, may not be well received. You just never know what another person is going through. She's taught me how important it is to go with your gut and take charge of your health and the well being of our children. She's taught me about grief and joy. Love you, girl!
3. Libby at Spaghettios with Sliced Us. Libby has a very witty sense of humor and a cute pug and daughter to boot. I love how upbeat Libby always is, finding humor in even the toughest situations. Plus, who can resist Scarlett's big blue eyes??
